Building a Garden Fence

Building a Garden Fence photoThey are privacy and shelter are two important things in the garden. The latter is often a problem in gardens which are exposed to cold prevailing winds. Both these points are important not only for the gardener himself, but also for the plants in his garden.

Young growth can be severely damaged by cold winds and frequent buffeting will cause a great deal of root disturbance. Although privacy and shelter can be provided by trees and shrubs, fences also have an important part to play.

The choice of fencing must never be undertaken lightly, for serious consideration must be given to its appearance and construction.

Strength is very important. A fence is only as strong as its supports. Most fences are supplied with strong posts, usually 4-6in (10-15cm) square. Sometimes concrete posts are supplied; these are extremely strong. Strength of timber also depends on the prevention of rot, and unless cedar wood is used (except for posts), all timber should be treated with a suitable preservative. Creosote can be used, although it should be allowed to soak into the timber for several weeks before plants are trained against it. Unless this is done, there is the danger of stem and leaf scorch and its use is not generally recommended where plants are to be grown against or near a fence. A safer treatment consists of the use of copper naphthenate preservatives such as the green, horticultural grades of Cuprinol or Solignum.

Types of fencing

The most popular types are purchased as units or panels. Usually they are from 5-6ft (1.5-1.8m) in length with heights varying from about 3-6ft ( 90cm-1.8m). A solid or close boarded fence is, as its name implies, a design which consists of upright or horizontal strips of wood, some 6in (15cm) wide and 1in (2-2.5cm) thick. The strips are nailed to two or more supporting rails at the rear of the panel. These provide complete privacy and wind protection.

Weather board fencing consists of wedge-shaped strips of wood, (1 in 2cm) in thickness at one edge, tapering to 0.5 in (1cm) at the other. Each strip overlaps the next by about 1 in(2cm). The advantage of this design is that it is virtually peep proof.

Trellis fencing is suited as a support for climbing and trailing plants. It is not a strong design but can be used to good effect for covering unsightly walls or as an additional part of a fence design. It usually consists of laths of wood 1 by 3/4in ( 2.5 by 1.5cm) thick, fastened across each other vertically and horizontally to form 6-8in (15-20cm) squares. The laths are attached to a more substantial framing of 1 or 1in (2.5 or 3cm) square timber.

One of the latest advances in fence production is the sale of kits which are so accurately machined and complete that even an unskilled person can erect panels without any trouble. With these kits have come new ideas in design, and many can be made up into contemporary designs. This is especially useful where bold effects are required in the construction of patios. Many ultra-modern properties are being built and this advance in fence appearance will be welcomed by their owners.

Fencing can also be provided in the form of chain link or mesh netting. The best quality is heavily galvanized to withstand the rigors of the weather.

A more recent innovation is the plastic coating of chain link over the galvanized wire. Standard colors of dark green, black, white, yellow and light green can be obtained.

World’s New Tallest Building: 1 Kilometer High Kingdom Tower

By the end of this decade the Kingdom tower will replace Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest building. The structure will extend to a mind boggling height of 1 kilometer(3280 feet) and will be constructed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the building will house a Four Seasons hotel & apartment area, office space, luxury condos and the world’s highest observatory.

The building’s spire shape was not a random choice. The architect explains:

With its slender, subtly asymmetrical massing, the tower evokes a bundle of leaves shooting up from the ground–a burst of new life that heralds more growth all around it. This symbolizes the tower as a catalyst for increased development around it.

The sleek, streamlined form of the tower was inspired by the folded fronds of young desert plant growth. The way the fronds sprout upward from the ground as a single form, then start separating from each other at the top, is an analogy of new growth fused with technology.

While the design is contextual to Saudi Arabia, it also represents an evolution and a refinement of an architectural continuum of skyscraper design. The three-petal footprint is ideal for residential units, and the tapering wings produce an aerodynamic shape that helps reduce structural loading due to wind vortex shedding. The Kingdom Tower design embraces its architectural pedigree, taking full advantage of the proven design strategies and technological strategies of its lineage, refining and advancing them to achieve new heights.

The tower is expected to cost .2 billion which forms only a small fraction of the total Kingdom city budget of bilion.

  • Conventional Building Construction

Conventional Building ConstructionAny habitable construction built for human purposes can be termed as a building. Buildings are used for purposes of residence, industry, academic, official, political and many others. In ancient times, buildings were in the form of small hutments which were made of thatch, hay, stone, bricks and such other crude materials. Today building construction is a much more complex art and uses materials such as reinforced concrete, cement, steel, glass, etc.

Based on their purposes, there are many types of buildings like residential buildings, warehouses, commercial buildings, church and school buildings, storage buildings, arenas and gymnasiums, farmhouses, museums and theaters, shopping malls and much more. Almost every commercial and noncommercial purpose requires a building to carry out its activities. The building may be of a single storey or may be a sprawling skyscraper having hundreds of stories.

Construction of a building is a very complicated task. When planning a building construction, the most important thing is to consider its function. The building must fulfill all the necessary requirements. Next consideration is of the exterior appearance of the building. This is achieved by hiring the services of an architect. Then a contractor is roped in to engineer and construct the building.

There are two main types of construction methods for buildings, viz. system construction and conventional construction. Conventional construction methods are orthodox methods, requiring traditional building components like wood, steel, masonry, and concrete to be cut fitted, welded and assembled on site. In contrast with conventional construction, system construction is both fast and effective. In this the building is erected with pre-designed parts which include floors, roofs and walls.

A building construction does not mean just the construction of floors, roofs and walls. There are several other fixtures like plumbing, electrical wires, cabinets, fireplaces, doors and windows, etc. that are to be considered. Buildings are also made waterproof, disaster proof and pest-resistant.

Almost every building can be covered by an appropriate insurance policy. There are many types of insurance policies available in order to avoid any loss like fire insurance, flood insurance, earthquake insurance, home insurance or boiler insurance.

    Building A Healthy Vegetable Garden

Building A Healthy Vegetable GardenVegetable gardening has lately become just as popular as going to the grocery store for your veggies. Vegetable gardening can produce a vegetable that are most of the times less expensive than when purchased in a grocery store, and vegetables from a home vegetable garden are without a doubt better tasting by far. Vegetable gardening is the same as growing herbs or flowers and if the right steps are taken and the young veggies are given the right care they’ll grow and evolve into very flourish vegetables. The First thing you will have to think about how much space you want to utilize for your vegetable garden and then choose a spot in your backyard, somewhere that has a good drainage, good flow of air, and good deep ground.

Vegetable gardens have a lot delightful rewards, a lot of animals, such as birds, mice, insects and many others will take a chance to take some of your vegetables. The method to prevent this is to setup a fence round your garden, or install a trap to snatch the moles, insects and other animals.Ahead of planting, “remember” the ground must be properly prepared. Good ground for vegetable gardening is accomplished by cultivation and the employment of organic fertilizer. The ground must be tilled to control weeds and mix mulch in the ground. Whenever you have a small garden, spading could be a more effective bet than plowing.

Mulching is also a all important part of ground preparation. Organic fertiliser added to the ground releases nitrogen, minerals, and supplemental nutrients plants need to grow. The most basic and most effective sort of mulch you can use is compost. While the type and amount of plant food used depends on the ground and the sorts of vegetables, there are a few plants that have particular needs; leafy plants, like cabbage, spinach, and lettuce typically grow better with  a good amount of nitrogen, when root crops such as potatoes, beets, and carrots ask more potassium hydroxide. Tomatoes and beans are accustomed to a smaller extent of the plant food, when plants like onions, celery, and potatoes need a bigger amount.

The Thing that’s vitally important in vegetable gardening is how the yard is ordered, there’s not a single plant that will grow in all gardens due to varying circumstances. The way to set up a vegetable garden is to plant vegetables demanding only a modest  distance together, such radishes, beets, and spinach, and those that need a lot of garden space together, such as maize, pumpkins, and potatoes. Attempt and plant big growing vegetables toward the back of the vegetable garden and the smaller ones in the front so that their sunshine doesn’t get blocked.

When you are finally done to begin planting out your vegetable garden, be sure that you plant at the right season. If you are eager to get an quick start, you may need to start your vegetable garden indoors in a hotbed and then move when the weather conditions allows it. Whenever you are done with planting, be sure your vegetables pick up the right amount of water, which depends up on the kind of plant or veggie.

Vegetable gardening is for many people a preferred sort of gardening since you can really taste the fruits of your work. Vegetable gardening isn’t that pricey to begin and the flavor of home grown vegetables definitely beat out the supermarket veggies.

The Building of A “Green” Brand

Nancy Walker presents a tour of her innovative green Walker Brands office — which earned Tampa’s first “Gold” LEED Certification in new construction. When she decided to design and build a new office, Walker knew she had to create a space that literally exuded her company’s brand. That meant designing an office that projected the firms brand personality of innovation, creativity and collaboration and its understanding of branded environments. “We made a decision to leverage this capital investment by making sure the building was a billboard for us. This building was about building our brand,” she said. Walker partnered with Beck Group, a national integrated design-build firm. After a series of visioning and design charrettes with Walker, Beck developed architectural and interior design solutions that met Walker’s objectives. “This building is proof that you don’t have to be a large corporation to build green,” Walker said. “We didnt want to be the newest old building. This building design reflects our innovation and environmental responsibility.” To read the PRESS RELEASE: walkerbrands.com

    The Sims 2- Building a House 9 – Part 1- Exterior

Hello again! I was requested by Purdonnnnn1873 to make a mansion using the Mansion & Garden pack. But I can’t build anything besides modern houses anymore so I made a Modern Mansion. I was creatively challenged the past week, i tried making 2 houses but I abandoned them. I guess all that time has really paid off! This is by far my most favouritest house! I thought that I couldn’t beat my 6th house but this annihilates that one. Took me over 3 hours doing just the outside so I split the architecture and interior decorating into 2 parts. Enjoy and give me feedback and whatnot

    The Sims 3 – Building a House 7 – Chicago Dreaming – Part 4 – Interior

The link to download this house is over here: www.thesims3.com Requested by coolkit211, who asked for a 1950′s Chicago Townhouse for his Italian Family (which I accidentally disregarded), that consists of Mother, Father and teenage daughter. So apart from those details, I was asked to include a garage and basement (I don’t understand the need for them so the houses I’ve made that require a basement I left empty) and it needed to be small. My first reaction was that it was going to be a quick and easy job… how wrong I was. This house took 3 hours to complete!!! And nothing was extraordinarily hard either, time just flew past. I could’ve made it 2 floors instead of 3 if I managed the ground floor better (theres lots of empty space), but I’ve always wanted to do a 1st floor Kitchen/ Dining Room, so I crammed them, a bathroom and a family room all on the one floor. 2nd floor is really nice but I definitely get carried away with colour themes. I tried being different with the daughters room and threw in Blue instead of all pink. But I think the Black & White throughout the house turned out quite nice. Backyard was just thrown together and the “garage” is very basic. Okay this is my last house that I’m building for a bit. I don’t have much internet to upload 1GB worth of videos everyday… that, and I’m all creative-ed out… I need time to recharge. I’m thinking of building simple, small starter homes instead of expensive works of art when I come back. I need a change. So

    The Sims 3 – Building a House 14 – Green With Envious Springs – Part 4 – Interior

The link to download this house is over here: www.thesims3.com First off, I think the kitchen, in paarticular, is too green, should have made the base of the counters and stuff to be that light orangey yellow wood that I use for everything =P I tried being slightly different with my bathroom by putting the toilet behind a wall in the corner…. I dunno if it looks good or not, I want real half walls dammit! Andddddd I’m placing throwbakcs from previous houses from the set with the blue bathroom! Same problem with Carnelian, the living room wouldn’t fit nicely but in the end I think I found the best spot to put it. Rug looks nice though! The bedroom, scheme taken from Black/ White house =DI love continuity! Gerenic bedroom, same as…. the over 30 rooms I’ve done in all my hosues =/ I shouldn’t have kept the green walls though and changed it to a greyish white or something. Still, it works! Same with the top bedroom except that’s the other half, being white… and reversed! the rugs for both are awesome! And I played with the shade of each side of the wall, looks more fun than being plain! Bah! the fireplace/ TV combo I was attempting would’ve been really good if the fireplace was moved slightly… but as always I found middle ground and made it work it’s best. Each installment of my ‘Colour Series’ will have a new feature that I will use for the next installment, so Green will have an amalgamation of all the previous houses, effectively making it a super house! Blue has

    The Sims 3 – Building a House 5 – The Window to the Home – Part 4 – Interior

The link to download this house is over here: www.thesims3.com Oh. My. God I haven’t felt this excited about uploading a house since No.9 back in Sims 2!!! Thanks to a request by ghjit, who asked me to build a Japanese/ Indian themed house that looked like a house you’d see in Las Vegas… in the 70′s. I dunno but that’s what I associated the hose with =\. Link to the picture i worked off of is here: www.lamidesign.com What do you think it looks like? Anyway, Sims 3 doesn’t cater for Japanese or Indian themes so I was asked to go for retro… which, sadly, isn’t catered for either. I planned to have modern exterior with a retro interior, but since that fell through, I stuck with modern for both. I must say, I absolutely love this house!!! I stayed in night mode while I was building cos with the lighting it looked realllllllllly sweet. A few ideas such as the driveway and entrance I stole from the Pondsomething house in Sunset Valley, Great house that! Bamboo works really nice with anything. And the usage of the different types of windows I stole from another video from Youtube, can’t remember it though. but thanks goes to them. The little Beachy-Oasis think was a ‘spur the moment’ idea. If you watched my House 4 you’d have seen me dabble with water but didn’t use it. I’ve also started playing around with feature walls and different shades of colour for each side of a room, like the bathroom. You’re all probably getting tired of me using the same furniture sets and stuff
