Vintage Guitar Price Guide Default

All too often that point is much later in life after the children have gone off to make their own homes and at last we find some time and maybe a little money to spend doing those very personal things we have always wanted to do for ourselves.

Vintage Guitar Price Guide Default

So really when we talk about guitar lessons for kids, although we are focusing on young people, we can include the not quite so young as well.

The desire to play a musical instrument is probably deep rooted in us all. However kids are not constrained by time, energy or cost in the same way that their parents are and so they want to do everything and they want to do it now, and why shouldn’t they?

Music is a universal medium that is enjoyed and always has been enjoyed the world over. So when the desire to participate in music and to learn to play an instrument is expressed by a youngster then it is right to encourage and help them where ever possible.

With the guitar being one of the most popular instruments in the world today then, it is not surprising that the question of guitar lessons for kids should arise.

The excitement of choosing and buying your first guitar is as enjoyable for us older kids as it most certainly is for any teenager. The issue that so often comes after this happy event though is that once the initial burst of enthusiasm subsides a frustration moves in as we discover that actually playing this wonderful new guitar isn’t quite as easy as we had thought!

This is where we came in! Guitar lessons for kids, young and not so young.

What options do we have? If we are talking guitar lessons for kids still at school then perhaps there is a resident music teacher at the school giving guitar tuition for free. If there is then that must be as good a place as any to start. If not, then the search goes on to find a local guitar teacher who is competent, affordable and of course, trustworthy.

Typically a half hour private lesson will cost about $35 a session. To make any real progress that will need to be one a week every week for perhaps a year or more. So a dollar commitment of $1600 a year is likely.

Of course you could try guitar lessons for kids out of a book. However a book or a video is unlikely to take anyone, let alone a youngster very far. After an initial burst of enthusiasm, nine people out of ten will park that book or video in a cupboard for ever more. End of lessons. Money wasted.

So where do you find guitar lessons for kids that are affordable, enjoyable, engaging and that actually take the would be guitarist from a standing start through to being perhaps an accomplished player?

Antique and Vintage Style Hardware Patterns ? A Guide

Antique and vintage style hardware is a broad term that encompasses many architectural styles and types of home and commercial hardware. While there is no one “style” of antique hardware, there are many popular patterns and designs that were used during specific historical periods. By understanding when a particular pattern was used or identifying the architectural style of your home, it becomes easy to find replacement hardware that will restore your home to its original glory.

Broken Leaf (1880′s) - This pattern was extremely popular during the Victorian era which included several home designs. The broken leaf pattern features a potted plant with an almost geometric leaf pattern. This style of hardware could fit easily into the Eastlake style which focused on getting away from ornate and flourished designs and utilizing simpler shapes and forms.

Rice Pattern (1870-80′s) – The rice pattern is another great example from this period but this time features a more textured surface. Small rice sized shapes and bumps create a beautiful surface effect that looks especially dramatic with copper, antique brass or any type of highlighted finish.

Georgian Roped (1900) – The classic rope pattern dates back to the early twentieth century and is a flat design accented with a “rope” around the edges. This pattern fits well into most homes because it is versatile and a subtle touch of detail. The rope pattern was sometimes used to identify sailing industry homes or later as a symbol of wealth in the community.

Egg and Dart (1900′s) – A classic theme in architecture throughout history is life and death and this style is no exception. The egg is used to represent life and the dart is death. This classic pattern features the egg hugged between two darts.

Beaded (1900) – The beaded pattern is similar to the rope because it features a small line of beads around the border of the design. The small beads are usually less that an eighth of an inch in diameter and add a wonderful accent design without being overpowering.

While this list is by no means exhaustive of the styles of hardware available for the home, it should provide a little insight into what type of hardware may fit best. Victorian and antique reproduction hardware is not limited for use only in historical homes – modern homes can introduce these patterns as well and create a beautiful new theme.

To Theme or not to Theme: a Guide to Five Different Home Bar Themes

Once you have decided to create a home bar, you have to think about the details.  Will you have track lighting?  Is there going to be a draft machine?  Will your bar stools swivel?  These all-important questions can be overwhelming.  Having a bar theme can help make the task of designing a lot easier.  Take a look at some of my favorite bar themes and some tips on how to make your themed bar truly authentic.

Irish Pub—One of the most popular bar themes is the Irish Pub.  Rich in history and Irish roots, a pub should have the look of a rustic, rugged drinking spot tucked into the corner of some quaint little Irish town.  The lighting is often dim and the main theme of décor is dark, shiny woods.  A heavy polished bar with brass railings should be the central item in your Irish bar and some rustic, worn in swivel top bar stools made from heavy quality wood should invite guests in for a pint.  Complete you Irish Pub with some great native brews on tap and maybe a space reserved for pool or darts.  The Irish Pub look is an easy one to achieve and a fun one to enjoy.

Tiki Lounge—Often the sought-after look for an outdoor bar, the Tiki Lounge bar is also a popular choice for home bars.  To achieve the Tiki look, a grass skirt bar is a must-have as are bamboo bar stools and a thatched roof hut.  Adding small touches like stringed lights, paper lanterns and drink umbrellas make your Tiki bar all the more authentic.  Invite guests to your Tiki Lounge either poolside or in a basement area and be sure to remember the colorful island tunes.  With a slushy ice machine and the mixed drinks flowing, you will be in paradise in no time.

Retro Swing Spot—Offer guests a throw back entertainment spot with a retro styled bar.  A high gloss bar surface with funky retro lines and shiny red stripes will remind guests of days gone by.  Complete the bar’s look with amazing vinyl seated swivel bar stools in chrome finish and you’ve got a look right out of Grease!  Accent your retro lounge with some vintage Coca Cola posters, a funky juke box and a retro soda machine and you’ve got a truly groovy set up.  Stock your bar with sodas and floats and offer martinis in retro styles glasses for the finishing touches to your new retro hang out.

Sports Bar—For the manly man, a sports bar in the home can be a dream come true.  To outfit your sports bar in high fashion, a bar top in the colors of your favorite team would match perfectly with your framed memorabilia hanging on the walls.  Provide armed bar stools and perhaps a secondary seating area with cushy chairs to watch the game in.  Don’t forget the beautiful flat-screen TV mounted in the corner to provide the entertainment.  Decorate with a neon sign or your favorite player’s jersey and give your bar an authentic team feel.  Finally, make sure the drinks are flowing from your mini keg refrigerator and be sure to have plenty of peanuts and pretzels available for when the guys come over for the game.

Whatever the bar style you decide to go with, one thing is true: your bar should be a reflection of you and your family and friends.  Keep special favorites on hand to show your guests that you truly care about their entertainment.  Most of all enjoy setting up your home bar and giving it the special touches that will truly make it your own.

Interior Design Schools Guide

The interior design industry depends on right choice of school to attend. Your clientele will definitely depend on the contacts you know, and the relationships you build in school with other prospective interior designers are fundamental to building a great career. However, the first thing to hurdle is your choice of school.

1. Focus

- Is it solely an interior design school?
- Does it offer other courses?
- Does the school participate in any interior design competition?
- Have they accomplished anything of reknown in the industry?
- Do the strengths of the school play to your strengths?

2. Alumni Accomplishments

- Have any reknown students come from this facility?
- Do they offer job placement opportunities?
- Do they have significant connections within the industry?
- Read professional reviews on the performance of interior design schools

3. Curriculum/Programs

You must assess whether the curriculum is relevant to you field of study. You may want to compare the curricula of different schools to see which offers the best form of education. It would also be wise to check the quality of the teaching staff at that school. Having established artists who teach at a interior design school is also an indication of a good training program.

4. Student to Teacher Ratio

- How big are the classes
- How many teachers and classes are available

5. Accreditation and Educational Standards

Accreditation means the school has passed a certain standards of educational quality. Accreditation is performed by the U.S. Department of Education. Interior design schools must be accredited to prove their level of competence. Check with the State Postsecondary School Licensing Bureau to see if the college you are investigating is accredited. Also, check National Approval and Accreditation for this concern.

6. Cost

Some people may proclaim that to obtain their education, they would spare no coin. Unfortunately, it also pays to be practical in your choice of interior design school. If the school you choose has a tuition rate that is beyond your financial capability, you might find yourself working unable to pursue your studies consistently due to the financial stress which may lead you to look for part-time work.

7. Scholarships

You might want to consider whether the design school you are looking at offers any scholarships. You also might want to know the terms to them too. Some schools offer scholarships based on academic performance. Some offer them based on interior design competitions they hold regularly.

Home Decor Guide: Different Styles of Home Decorative Pieces

There is a wide array of home decorations styles to choose from that it is sometimes difficult to determine which one suits us best. To help us decide which theme or style to go for, here are some information about our different options on home themes and styles:

1. Traditional

The traditional or classic look is said to be timeless, one that never gets outdated. This is a style preferred by many people because of its warm, inviting and welcoming environment that is made even more beautiful by the choice of classic colors such as warm wood tones and neutral shades, and classic prints such as floral patterns and symmetric designs.
The traditional theme is ideal for those who want to be on the safe side when decorating their homes and not for adventurous souls who want to experiment with bold colors or explore exciting new designs.

2. Contemporary

Modern times call for modern home décor, so they say. Contemporary décor are those that are edgy and more adventurous. The color palette of this theme typically includes black, gray, silver, red and white. We do not see any floral patterns here but more basic geometric shapes.
Metal is the common material for modern pieces of furniture. Examples are metal wall plaque, metal wall sculptures, and contemporary wall hangings. The principle of this type of theme resides on form, artistic expression and minimalism.

3. Country

Country décor makes you feel like you are right in the middle of the country and rustic environment. Vintage fabrics, floral patterns, stripes and checkered patterns are some of the common things you would see in a country theme. It is also typical to see wall arts featuring roosters, horses and cows or decorative plates, bowls and pottery. Colors are usually bright and of shades of red, orange, brown and yellow.

4. Tropical

A tropical theme will enable you to enjoy the wondrous feeling of being in the tropical islands right inside your home. You can bask in the warmth of the sun, frolic in the ocean and imagine sand between your toes.
You can create this theme by using home décor that have light and bright hues of blues, yellows, oranges and greens. You can use fabrics that contain patterns of palm trees, hibiscus blooms and floral designs. Tropical home accents include shell décor, woven baskets, bamboo mats, and tropical plants.

5. Ethnic

Ethnic or tribal theme is characterized by dark earth tones such as brown, deep red, yellow and green. Beaded patterns, wooden bowls, clay and terracotta sculptures, and natural ornaments are some of the many home accessories that will help you achieve an ethnic look for your home. Wood is the material commonly used for this theme. And you would hardly find metal accessories like a metal wall plaque in this kind of theme.
When decorating our homes, one of the first things that we plan is the overall theme or style that we want to achieve. Having a general style or theme not only makes decoration a lot easier but also enables us to attain harmony and unity.
